What It Is:
At Sephora, they love that feeling when you find a new beauty product, give it a try, and wonder how you ever lived without it. That’s why they created PLAY! by SEPHORA, a beauty box filled with five stellar samples, delivered right to your door.
Here’s how it works:
Each month they curate a selection of new and best-selling products they’re most excited about, from makeup to hair care to skincare to fragrance. Then, using the answers in your PLAY! Profile, they determine which version is best for you. Next stop, your place, where you can experiment, play, and find your personal favorites.

Every month Sephora also includes a flyer that offers important details and informative tips and tidbits about the products included.

December 2016's theme is The Partygoers. Here's what's in this month's box:

DRYBAR Bay Breeze Hydrating Shot (0.5oz, $9.50) - Salon-quality, single-dose treatments quench dry hair and scalp, then wash away for shiny, silky-soft hair. This super-concentrated treatment gets its thirst-quenching properties from apricot kernel oil (deeply conditions and prevents dryness) and sage leaf extract (provides long-lasting moisture over time and improves hair texture.

HOW TO USE: After shampooing, squeeze excess water out of hair and spray with the entire bottle, going section by section and working from roots to ends. Massage in, leave on for 3-5 minutes, and rinse off. Can be used once per week.

THE LIFE OF THE PARTY: Created by Alli Webb, founder of the much-loved Drybar salons, the Bay Breeze Hydrating Shot is the perfect way to keep your hair quenched and healthy-looking during the dry winter months. And it's a snap to incorporate into your hair care routine since the results last for a full week!

URBAN DECAY All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (0.5oz, $7.50- Weightless setting spray prevents makeup from fading, smudging, and settles into fine lines for a touch-up-free finish. This mist uses a patented temperature control technology that helps to regulate moisture, which keeps makeup looking just-applied, even in hot, humid and windy conditions.

THE LIFE OF THE PARTY: This groundbreaking mist is powerful enough to keep your makeup looking fresh for up to 16 hours regardless of your skin type! Urban Decay collaborated with SKINDINAVIA, an authority on setting sprays, to create this clinically tested formula that is hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer (0.16oz, $5.44) - This silky primer helps makeup last longer while the targeted formula balances skin's texture, resulting in a smoother, more even look. You know it's a crime not to prime. We all love the Make Up For Ever Step 1 primer collection because it is made up of a wide range of complexion-perfecting formulas, from radiance-enhancing to redness-correcting. Try mixing, matching, and pairing them up to create customized makeup prep that works for you.

ABOUT THE BRAND: Adored by makeup artists for its potent formulas and vibrant array of color, Make Up For Ever is known for products that work as well in everyday life as they do on the stage and catwalk. Founder Dany Sanz is one of the beauty industry's most talented veterans - she actually created the first professional makeup school in Europe in the 1970's!

ELIZABETH AND JAMES Nirvana Bourbon EDP (0.07oz, $4.55) - An intoxicating blend of vanilla bourbon and spice wood with a delicate floral note. Top note is vanilla bourbon. Middle note is tuberose. Base notes are oak and spice wood.

ABOUT THE BRAND: In both fragrance and fashion, Elizabeth and James balances the duality of elegant feminine details with masculine edginess. Nirvana Bourbon is designed to be worn either alone or layered with Nirvana Rose, a dark floral scent.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Cream Lip Stain in Always Red (0.04oz, ~$3.31) - Decadent yet lightweight stain moisturizes while saturating lips with a bold, nonstop shade of crimson red. Plus, it's made with hydrating avocado and vitamin E oils that keep your lips feeling soft.

PRO TIP: Just a bit of prep can make a huge difference in the way your liquid lipstick wears. Use a lip scrub to exfoliate, then tap on a little balm, swipe on your lipstick, and ta-da! Super smooth, long-lasting color.

BOBBI BROWN Smokey Eye Mascara (0.1oz, $15.00) - Jet-black, kohl-pigmented mascara delivers high-impact volume with a smudge-free formula. Swipe it on when you're going for a dramatic look. This deeply pigmented formula is just the thing to pair with kohl eyeliner and a dark eye shadow palette for a smoky eye effect.

THE LIFE OF THE PARTY: From natural-looking lipstick shades to always-flattering hues of blush, we're longtime fans of Bobbi Brown's fresh, modern approach to beauty. This innovative mascara enhances any look by building volume on each and every lash, rather than by clumping lashes together to create fullness.

The hydrating shot is something that I've never even heard of, so I'm anxious to use it! I won't use the primer or the setting spray, although they both sound great. They'll find a great home with whoever I pass them along to. I was surprised that I didn't HATE the perfume. I cannot stand the smell of bourbon, but this wasn't horrible. My husband really liked it, and being a unisex fragrance, he'll inherit this sample. I'll probably give the mascara away... I have so many. The lip stain went on smoothly and felt amazing. Not sticky at all! It's was very Betty Boop, hence the duck lips. And the last picture shows why it's called a lip "stain." It doesn't want to come off. That's okay. It will eventually fade.

This December 2016 box has a total value of $45.30. Not on the high scale value-wise that I've been spoiled with when it comes to Play! But great variety and quality. I'm a happy girl.

Merry Christmas, Blessed Hanukkah, (and all the other holidays this land has to celebrate) and Happy New Year! The January 2017 box is right around the corner!
